Subscription and license terms

Terms of Service

These terms govern access to the Federal Judicial Tracker website, desktop application, annual subscriptions, reports, and related services.

Effective August 10, 2026

Important: This is a practical business draft prepared for launch readiness. Federal Software Developers should have a qualified attorney review it before accepting live customer payments, particularly for state-specific automatic-renewal, tax, privacy, warranty, and dispute requirements.

1. Agreement and provider

These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) are an agreement between you and Federal Software Developers, the developer and provider of Federal Judicial Tracker (“FJT,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). By purchasing, installing, activating, accessing, or using FJT, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.

If you purchase or use FJT for a law firm, school, company, government body, newsroom, nonprofit, or other organization, you represent that you have authority to accept these Terms for that organization. Purchases must be made by an adult capable of entering a binding agreement.

2. The service

FJT is a Windows research application that organizes information concerning federal judges, judicial vacancies, nominations, official updates, alerts, analytics, and exportable reports. Features, data sources, and presentation may change as the product develops.

FJT is an independent research product. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the United States Courts, Federal Judicial Center, United States Senate, or any court or government agency.

3. Annual plans and license limits

Each subscription grants a limited, nonexclusive, nontransferable, revocable license during the paid subscription term. A “named user” is one identified individual and may not be shared concurrently with another person.

PlanNamed usersComputersPermitted use
Educational1Up to 2Qualifying noncommercial teaching and academic research; eligibility verification may be required.
Individual1Up to 2Personal or independent research; not law-firm, institutional, or team use.
Legal Professional1Up to 2Professional or commercial use by one attorney, legal consultant, or other legal professional.
TeamUp to 5Up to 10 totalProfessional or commercial use by the named members of one purchasing organization.

Team administrators may reassign a seat when personnel change, but may not rotate or share seats to avoid purchasing the number of licenses reasonably required. Additional users, computers, departments, campuses, or locations require written approval or an additional plan.

4. Prices, taxes, and payment

Prices are stated in U.S. dollars and are charged annually in advance. Applicable sales, use, value-added, or similar taxes may be added or handled through the checkout provider. The price and renewal terms shown at checkout control for that purchase.

Payments are processed through Stripe-hosted checkout and may be subject to Stripe or Link terms and privacy practices. We do not receive or store your complete payment-card number.

5. Automatic renewal and cancellation

Your subscription renews automatically for successive one-year terms unless you cancel before the renewal charge. By completing checkout, you authorize the checkout provider to charge the payment method on file for the initial term and each renewal, including applicable taxes, until cancellation.

You may cancel at any time by using any customer-account or billing-portal option made available to you, or by emailing stephen@FederalJudicialTracker.com. Cancellation stops future renewal charges and normally takes effect at the end of the then-current paid term. We will provide confirmation after processing an emailed cancellation request.

We will provide renewal notices when and as required by applicable law. You are responsible for keeping your email and billing information current.

6. Thirty-day first-purchase refund

A new customer may request a refund of the initial subscription charge within 30 calendar days after the first purchase. This guarantee does not apply to renewal charges, later purchases, plan expansions, or accounts terminated for fraud, chargeback abuse, license sharing, or other material violations, except where applicable law requires otherwise.

Send refund requests to stephen@FederalJudicialTracker.com from the purchaser’s email address and include the purchaser name and transaction information reasonably needed to locate the purchase. Approved refunds are returned through the original payment method. Access may end when a full refund is issued.

7. Acceptable use and restrictions

You may use FJT and its exported reports for research, analysis, teaching, journalism, client work, and internal business purposes allowed by your plan. You may quote or incorporate reasonable portions of an exported report into your own work where lawful and appropriately attributed.

You may not:

  • share credentials, activation information, or named-user seats beyond the purchased limits;
  • sell, sublicense, rent, publish, distribute, or make the application or its compiled database available to others;
  • circumvent license, activation, security, or computer-limit controls;
  • reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to derive source code except where applicable law expressly permits it;
  • use FJT unlawfully, to violate another person’s rights, or to misrepresent government affiliation; or
  • use automated methods to reproduce a substantial portion of the product or create a competing substitute from it.

8. Data accuracy and no legal advice

FJT relies substantially on public information from official and other sources. Public records can be delayed, incomplete, corrected, reformatted, or unavailable. Analytics, alerts, forecasts, estimates, and classifications may involve automated processing or judgment and may contain errors.

FJT does not provide legal advice, determine jurisdiction, establish filing deadlines, create an attorney-client relationship, or replace review of court rules, dockets, orders, statutes, official records, or advice from a qualified attorney. You are responsible for independently verifying information before relying on it.

9. Intellectual property and feedback

FJT’s software, design, arrangement, original text, reports, documentation, branding, and other proprietary elements are owned by Federal Software Developers or its licensors and are protected by applicable law. Public-domain source records remain subject to their applicable legal status.

If you provide suggestions or feedback, you grant us permission to use them without restriction or compensation, while we remain responsible for avoiding disclosure of information you identify as confidential.

10. Updates, support, and availability

We may provide corrections, maintenance releases, data-source changes, and feature updates. You are responsible for installing required updates and maintaining a supported Windows environment, internet access where needed, and reasonable backups. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access to every feature or external source.

11. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate access for nonpayment, suspected fraud, security risk, unlawful conduct, material breach, or use beyond the license limits. When reasonably possible, we will provide notice and an opportunity to correct a curable breach. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination—including payment obligations, restrictions, intellectual-property rights, disclaimers, and liability limits—will survive.

12. Disclaimers

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, FJT IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” WE DISCLAIM IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, AND RESULTS. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT FJT WILL BE ERROR-FREE, THAT EVERY OFFICIAL CHANGE WILL BE DETECTED, OR THAT EXTERNAL SOURCES WILL REMAIN AVAILABLE.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions, so portions of this section may not apply to you.

13. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, FEDERAL SOFTWARE DEVELOPERS AND ITS OWNERS, PERSONNEL, AND SERVICE PROVIDERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY, PUNITIVE, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, LOST DATA, MISSED DEADLINES, OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION ARISING FROM FJT.

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR CLAIMS RELATING TO FJT WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE AFFECTED SUBSCRIPTION DURING THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM. These limitations do not apply where prohibited by law.

14. Governing terms and disputes

These Terms are governed by applicable United States law and the law of the state in which Federal Software Developers maintains its principal place of business, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Before filing a formal claim, each party agrees to give the other written notice and a reasonable opportunity to resolve the dispute informally. Nothing in these Terms limits rights that cannot lawfully be waived.

15. Changes and general provisions

We may update these Terms prospectively. If a change materially affects an active subscription, we will provide notice as required and identify a new effective date. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance where permitted by law.

These Terms, the Privacy Policy, the checkout disclosures, and any written order terms form the agreement between the parties concerning FJT. If one provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign your rights without our written consent; we may assign these Terms as part of a merger, sale, reorganization, or transfer of the product.
